Euro 2024: Georgia, Czechia settle for draw in Group E

Euro 2024: Georgia, Czechia settle for draw in Group E

Georgia were moments away from a late win Saturday afternoon against Czechia but a wayward shot by substitute, Saba Lobjanidze denied them that glory as they ended their game 1-1 at the Volksparkstadion.

Georgia took the lead through striker Georges Mikautadze who was calm and slotted in from the penalty spot to the right bottom corner after a VAR check for a handball.

Czechia who threatened several times from setpieces eventually restored parity through Patrik Schick turned in after substitute Ondrej Lingr hit the post.

Schick then limped off with an injury as Georgia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili produced excellent saves including seven alone in the first half as both sides shared the spoils.

The hopes of the two sides will be determined after the third group games.
