Euro 2024: Italy survives Albania scare, Folorunsho makes co

Italy came from a goal down to beat Albania 2-1 in the second Group B game of the Euro 2024 Saturday night, as they began the defence of their title, reports Allnews.ng.

Nedim Bejrahmi scored the fastest goal in the history of the tournment just 23 seconds into the game but it lasted only 10 minutes as Alessandro Bastoni equalised before Marco Barrela doubled the lead five minutes later, with a rasping shot.

The win means that Italy have won an European Championship game after conceding the opening goal for the first time since 2004.

Italy dominated possession for the most part of the game, albeit, Albania went closest twice in the closong stages to pulling an unlikely draw.

But in the second half Albania made it difficult for Italy without really having that goal threat of their own.

The game marked the first competitive game for Nigerian-born Michael Folorunsho, who was introduced in the 86th minute in place of Marco Barella.

Folorunsho had not played for the defending champions until he was named in the provisional sqaud.
