Euro 2024: Spain inflict pain on Croatia in first Group B match

Euro 2024: Spain inflict pain on Croatia in first Group B ma

Spain defeated Croatia 3-0 Saturday evening, to begin their Euro 2024 tournament in emphatic fashion and underline their readiness to conquer Europe after the 2008 and 2012 titles, with a 3-0 win over Croatia at the Olympiastadion Berlin.

The game was the first Group B match of the tournment and despite Croatia boasting of some world class talents, including Real Madrid maestro Luka Modric, the La Roja were majestic in execution.

Alvaro Morata, Fabian Ruiz and Dani Carvajal were the scorers of the three goals - all scored in the frist of the game.

Morata - captain of the Spaniards - slotted past Dominik Livakovic when he pounced on a through pass from Fabian Ruiz in the 29th minute. It was the 36th goal for his country for the Atletico Madrid star.

Ruiz himself then doubled the lead three  minutes with a brilliant movemet and a low shot that saw the ball nestle at the bottom of the left corner after the ball deflected off Josip Sutalo and found its way past Dominik Livakovic in goal for the Croats.

Manchester City defender, Josko Gvardiol drilled a shot which beat Unai Simon but his teammate, Ante Budimir was also not able to pounce as the ball flew wide of the post.

Dani Carvajal then made it imossible for the eastern Europeans to make a comeback as he latched onto a great cross from Lamine Yamal in the second minute of added time in the first half.

Luis de la Fuente’s side did not find the back of the net again as they conceded possession to Croatia and played ultra defensive to maintain their lead.
