Euro 2024: Ukraine steals late win against Slovakia

Roman Yaremchuk revived Ukraine's hopes of qualification to the round of 16 stage of Euro 2024 from Group E with a late goal against Slovakia as they came from behind to win 2-1 at the Düsseldorf Arena Friday evening.

Ivan Schranz who scored the goal that sank Belgium in the 1-0 win recorded by Slovakia put his team ahead to leave Ukraine's chances hanging by the thread.

To make things difficult for the Ukrainians, Slovakia did not press the handbreak and pressed from the front leaving their opponents to depend on counters and setpieces.

Ukraine eventually found their mojo and equalised through Mykola Shaparenko in the 54th minute with a neat finish from close range.

Yaremchuk then made a victory certain when he controlled the ball brilliantly from Mykola Shaparenko's lofted ball over the top and sliced it past Slovakia goalkeeper Martin Dubravka into the bottom left corner from six yards out.

Ukraine lost 3-0 to Romania in their first group game four days while Slovakia shocked Belgium 1-0.
