French Ligue 1 side Rennes defeated AC Milan 3-2 in the Europa League affair on Thursday night as both sides squared up on the pitch.

With a place in the knockout stages at stake, Milan was the overwhelming favourite based on club pedigree and the result of the first-leg tie.

AC Milan won 3-0 at the San Siro and Rennes needed to outscore them in this contest. The Rennes side took the lead following a goal from Benjamin Bourigeaud in the 11th minute of the match.

Baptiste Santamaria played him in for the goal to ensure a 1-0 lead for the host.

AC Milan equalized thanks to a goal from Luka Jovic who was set up by his Milan teammate Theo Hernandez 11 minutes later.

It finished 1-1 apiece between both sides at the break. After the intermission, Benjamin Bourigeaud scored in the 54th minute to make it 2-1.

All the same, AC Milan proved their credentials as they equalized to make it 2-2 thanks to a goal from Rafael Leao.

Soon after it was 3-2 as Benjamin Bourigeaud converted from the spot again to net his hat-trick against Milan in the match.

He gave his side the lead in the 68th minute of the match. It finished 3-2 in the second leg tie but it’s AC Milan that advanced to the next stage with a 5-3 aggregate scoreline.
