Kidnap kingpin, Chukwudimeme Onwuamadike alias Evans has been reportedly sentenced to death by a Lagos State High Court on Thursday.
According to newsonline.ng, he was sentenced to death by hanging. At the time of filing this report, other prominent news platforms are yet to report the development.
A similar report was circulated by some news platforms sometime in August last year. This was however rebutted by a fact check to the contrary.
Recall that Evans and five others were arraigned before Justice Oshodi on August 31, 2017, on two charges of conspiracy and kidnapping.
They are accused of kidnapping one Donatus Dunu on February 14, 2017.
According to the prosecution, Dunu was kidnapped on Ilupeju Road, Lagos and the defendants allegedly collected 223,000 euros as ransom from Dunu’s family.
Evans was also charged for attempting to kidnap the chairman of the Young Shall Grow Motors, Vincent Obianodo.
Evans denied all allegations of kidnapping leveled against him by the Lagos State Government. He insisted that he was a legitimate businessman.
He said that his nickname was not Evans and that he was coerced into admitting to being a kidnapper by the police.
