Former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad
Former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad revealed on Friday that a medical facility in Gaza, established by his foundation, has fallen victim to Israeli bombing.
The Dr Siti Hasmah and Enaya Physiotherapy Centre in Khan Younis, located in southern Gaza, was reportedly destroyed, prompting Mahathir to express his distress over the situation.
Mahathir, who led Malaysia from 1981-2003 and again from 2018-2020, said that he was “perturbed” to learn that the Dr Siti Hasmah and Enaya Physiotherapy Centre in Khan Younis, southern Gaza had been destroyed earlier this month.
The Perdana Global Peace Foundation played a role in establishing the medical facility in Gaza, marking an initiative to provide essential healthcare services to the local community.
The Dr Siti Hasmah and Enaya Physiotherapy Centre, operational since 2019, aimed to serve the people of Khan Younis, contributing to healthcare access in the region.
He added; “Despite having said earlier that they would not target the south, it proved to be lip service. The attacks are now turning into an operation of mass murdering Palestinian civilians and non-combatants. It is not a war between militaries, but a genocide by the Israeli military to rid Gaza of its Palestinian population.
“The bombings of hospitals and residences, and now a physiotherapy centre, proved that Israel is targeting these centres intentionally and wilfully.”
The destruction of the medical facility adds another layer to the complex relationship between Mahathir and Israel, as he continues to condemn what he perceives as intentional harm to the Palestinian population.
