Expert Urges Government To Create More Tech Hubs

An Enugu-based tech expert, Silver Kalu, has urged all levels of government to create more tech hub centres and space for the training of millions on digital space and its realities.

Kalu, the Founder of Global World Connection (GWC) Groups Nigeria Ltd, made the call in Enugu on Sunday during the fifth anniversary of the GWC group and award presentation to outstanding customers of the GWC online brands.

He said that the government investing massively in the online or digital space had become imperative due to the global evolving digital space for all human activities especially commercial and services.

“For now, we have limited training equipment and training spaces for tech and online/digital in the country even in the state and council area tech hub centres.

“Most tech hub centres have limited space that will only take at most 100 students even when you have between 500 and 1,000 youths willing and eager to learn on each call for application,” Kalu said.

According to him, just as citizens of other advanced countries have moved forward digitally and in the online space, the country and her citizens needed to move ahead as well.

The expert noted that the two major challenges facing Nigerian youths going into tech and online businesses were a lack of consistency and focus.

“I faced these two challenges when I entered the tech world over a decade ago, but I had to overcome them by perseverance and thinking clearly about where I want to be in the future.

“Parents and older people needed to encourage youths to put their zeal to that which they have learnt or aspire to be in life and remain focused on it,” he said.

The expert also lauded state governments that had invested in building tech-hub centres and helping upcoming techpreneurs (entrepreneurs in the technology and online space) with some free services in the centres.

“The Enugu State Tech-Hub centre, that of Delta State and Abia State are all doing well within this our general area and assisting tech students and upcoming techpreneurs as well,” he added.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of the GWC “Brand Loyalty” awards to its outstanding customers and an award to the Enugu State Tech-Hub Centre for being a “Pillar of Support”.

The GWC group is a full-service technology and digital marketing agency as well as online training and mentorship.
