Manchester United secure an FA Cup semifinal spot against Brighton & Hove Albion after a remarkable victory against Fulham at Old Trafford on Sunday.
The game saw three Fulham players receive red cards in seconds, including captain Aleksandar Mitrovic, who pushed the referee after he awarded United a penalty for Willian's handball on the line after a VAR review.
The Brazilian player was also sent off, along with Fulham manager Marco Silva on the touchline. Despite Fulham taking the lead early in the second half through Mitrovic's goal, United turned the game around with two goals from Bruno Fernandes and Marcel Sabitzer's first for the club.
The game's turning point occurred 18 minutes before the end when Willian used his hand to deflect Jadon Sancho's shot behind, preventing a specific goal. Initially, Chris Kavanagh only gave a corner, but after seeing the replay, he awarded a penalty to United and reversed his decision, leading to chaotic scenes on the pitch.
Fernandes coolly converted the penalty, levelling the score, and United quickly made the most of their two-man advantage. Luke Shaw crossed for Sabitzer to flick home, and Fernandes scored the final goal of the match in the sixth minute of added time, securing United's place in the semifinals.
Mitrovic's push on the referee is likely to result in a severe ban for the captain, who could face a lengthy spell on the sidelines. United's victory keeps them on course for a treble of cup competitions and sets up an exciting semifinal against Brighton at Wembley on April 23.
