FACT CHECK: Did Minister Of Education, Adamu Adamu Announce

Massive attention has been drawn this week to the circulating video of the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, speaking on school reopening nationwide in Nigeria, AllNews noticed.

After seeing this three-second video, many believed that the Minister has finally approved September 7th, 2020 to be the resumption date for all schools in the country.

The hashtag #schoolreopening, accompanied by the video, was among the top trends on social networking service, Twitter on Tuesday, 18 August 2020. The clip was also widely circulated on mobile application, WhatsApp.

Schools Reopening: AllNews' findings

However, going by our research, it was discovered that the video was unrelated, It was actually manipulated and the voice doesn't belong to the Minister.

While requiring a closer look, the movement of his lips in the clip does not match the speech, strongly suggesting the voice was dubbed over the video.

The video was recorded way back in 2016, and not this year, 2020; and the Minister spoke about another issue entirely. However, the video was doctored by some people to distract and confuse Nigerians in respect of the reopening of schools or otherwise in the country.

The video was published on 12th of January, 2016, and made available on YouTube, where the Minister was speaking at the start of a workshop on the Africa Centres of Excellence, a universities research project supported by the World Bank. .

The video is in no way related to the Minister speaking on the reopening of schools in the country, hence, everyone is advised to disregard it.

The last news on Nigerian schools is that post-secondary student population protested against schools closure on Wednesday, August 19.
