Ten members of the same family have lost their lives on their way to a funeral following a bomb explosion in Afghanistan.
According to state officials, a bomb went off on the roadside as the family drove through the Khost province in their station wagon, AFP reports.
According to a spokesman for the governor of the province of Khost, Talib Mangal, “The casualties include five men, two women and three children all from one family.
“They were travelling to Logar province to attend a funeral.”
The details of the tragedy regarding the number of casualties were confirmed by the provincial police spokesman, Adil Haidar, while the spokesperson for the ministry of interior Nasrat Rahimi said that the detonated bomb was planted by the Taliban, although, the Taliban is yet to take credit for the incident.
The explosion happened on the same day the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund's (UNICEF) report said that on the average, nine children were killed or afflicted with some wound every day in Afghanistan during the first nine months of 2019.
In the northern part of the country, on Tuesday, a bomb exploded in Mazar-i-sharif, capital of Balkh, a place that was relatively safe.
The bomb that went off in Mazar- i - sharif, was, according to Adil Shah Adil, Balkh police spokesperson, concealed on a bicycle, wounding 18 people.
