Fatai Osho has reportedly been appointed as the new head coach of Akwa United following his departure from Rivers United earlier this month.
He agreed to a one-season contract with Akwa United which is renewable based on his performance next season, according to BSN Sports on Thursday.
Osho will replace outgoing manager Deji Ayeni who the management of the Promise Keepers have decided to let go when his contract ends on June 30.
The management's decision to allow Ayeni, who joined the Uyo-based club mid-way through the 2021/22 season, leave stemmed from the fact that the Promise Keepers failed to book a place in the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) Super Six playoffs and got knocked out of the Federation Cup in the early stages.
Osho joins Akwa United with a resume having Rivers United, Enyimba, Remo Stars, Crown FC, Supreme Court FC and Kogi United.
With his coaching experience, he helped Rivers United in his role as assistant coach to become 2021-22 NPL champions for the first time in the club's history and secure a spot in next season's CAF Confederations Cup.
It is hoped that Osho will hit the ground running and guide the Promise Keepers back to the continental competition at the end of the 2023-24 season.
