FCT Minister Muhammad Bello has issued warnings to tax payment defaulters in the nation's capital to desist from such unpatriotic practices as it impedes effort towards improving the Internally Generated Revenue base.
Bello gave the warning on Wednesday in his keynote address delivered by the FCT Permanent Secretary, Olusade Adesola, at a town hall meeting organised by the FCT
Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS).
Bello noted that their actions are not only morally wrong, but are also serious criminal offences for which they can face very severe penalties if convicted.
Earlier, in his welcome address, the Ag. Executive Chairman FCT-IRS, Haruna Abdullahi, said the town Hall meeting was aimed at enlightening FCT residents and other stakeholders on the processes
involved in the issuance of Tax Clearance Certificate in Abuja.
He added that the FCT-IRS has been working towards ensuring provision of Taxpayer-centric services and will not hesitate to take punitive measures on defaulters of the law.
