FCT Minister Swears In Area Council Chairmen

The Federal Capital Territory Minister, Muhammad Bello, on Tuesday swore in the newly-elected six Area Council Chairmen and their deputies in compliance with the court order. 

The ceremony is coming after about three weeks of impasse following the FCT high court judgement of May 18, 2022, suspending the swearing-in of the elected chairmen and the councillors.

The Chief Judge of the FCT, Justice Hussaini Yusuf, represented by Justice Suleiman Belgore, administered the Oath of Office to the Chairmen and their deputies at the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) Office.

While inaugurating the Chairmen, Bello charged them to focus on delivering impactful grassroots governance in areas of primary health care, education, environmental sanitation, security to ensure the well being of the people. 

The minister also enjoined them to abide by the Oat of Office, defend the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the rules and regulations of the FCT. 

Earlier, the chairmen, while taking their Oat of Office pledged to defend the constitution of Nigeria and abide by the rules and regulations guiding the running of FCT without any fear or favour.
