FCTA Begins Construction Of 70 Public Toilets Across Territo

The Federal Capital Territory Administration has stepped up its campaign against open defecation with the flag off of the construction of over 70 public toilets in major areas across the territory.

The administration, through its Rural Water Supply and Sanitation (RUWASSA) made this known on Monday during a sensitisation campaign ahead of the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the toilets scheduled for Tuesday.

While sensitising the public on the need to stop open defecation, the Head of Sanitation, FCT RUWASSA, Aisha Bakpet said the administration is determined to end the ugly trend by 2025.

She said, "the construction of the public toilets is one of the practical steps being taken by the administration to stamp out the outbreak of diseases such as cholera, diarrhea among other water-borne diseases."

The campaign train which started from Area 3 junction, Garki Abuja had a brief stopover at Area 1 before heading to area 10, Wuse, and Jabi.

Some concerned residents however expressed their fear over the ability of the administration to operate and manage the toilets, pleading also for the toilets to be made free for easy access.
