The FCT Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariat, (ARDS), has said plans are in motion to clamp down on illegal veterinary clinics in the country's capital.
This is as it is collaborating with relevant regulatory bodies to identify and root out illegal veterinary clinics in the territory.
The Mandate Secretary, ARDS Abubakar Ibrahim, who disclosed this on Wednesday at the handover ceremony of animal health centre in Kuje, said the clampdown on illegal veterinary clinics was to guarantee public health safety of residents.
Ibrahim said the Secretariat would put in place more measures to prevent the outbreak and spread of animal diseases.
She noted that 90 veterinary Doctors were mobilised a week ago to kickstart the mass treatment of livestock in the Six Area Councils of the FCT.
Performing the inauguration of the centre, the Director and Chief Veterinary Officer of Nigeria, Dr. Maimuna Habib disclosed that the project was executed to provide quality animal health care services delivery to livestock farmers and pastoralists.
She said the centre was constructed by the Veterinary and Pest Control Services Department of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to help rural dwellers improve on their livestock production.
