FCTA Sets June 14 As Inauguration For Area Council Chairmen After Youth Protest

FCTA Sets June 14 As Inauguration For Area Council Chairmen

The Federal Capital Territory Administration has assured protesting indigenous youths of Abuja that the inauguration of the Chairmen-elect of the Six Area Councils will take place on Tuesday, June 14, 2022.

A press statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the FCT Minister, Anthony ogunleye on Friday confirmed that the administration at about 2pm on Friday received the Certified True Copy of the new judgement of the FCT High Court.

Ogunleye disclosed that the copy was delivered by Justice Ibrahim Mohammed amid tenure elongation controversies.

According to him, FCT is a creation of law and all actions of the FCT Administration are guided by the rule of law and this case will not be an exception.

The FCTA extended its appreciation to all stakeholders for their patience and support in this regard and enjoined all residents of the territory to remain calm and law-abiding in their daily activities.

The court had set aside its earlier judgement delivered on Friday, May 13, 2022, granting a one year extension to the outgoing Chairmen and Councilors of the 6 FCT Area Councils due to lack of jurisdiction.

The judgement effectively clears the way for the swearing-in of the newly elected chairmen.
