FCTA To Recover N29 Billion Ground Rent Debt

The administration of the FCT has initiated processes to recover N29 billion ground rent owed by land allottees in the Federal Capital Territory.

The administration also warned debtors to pay their ground rent or risk forfeiting their titles.

The FCTA General Counsel and Secretary of the Legal Services Secretariat, Barr. Mohammed Umar disclosed this during the FCT Executive Committee meeting, on Wednesday in Abuja.

The meeting which was chaired by the FCT Minister, Muhammad Bello, explored ways through which the recovery of the funds will be carried out including the instrumentality of the courts.

According to Umar, the Land Use Act allows the administration to recover ground rents through the Magistrate Court.

He added that 29 billion naira is a lot of money that can be used to build infrastructure and improve services for the teeming residents of the FCT.
