The Federal Government in partnership with the Gombe State government and the Islamic Development Bank is set to construct three boarding Bilingual Almajiri schools in the state.
This was disclosed by Babaji Babadidi, Executive Chairman, Gombe State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Gombe on Thursday.
According to Babadidi, the schools will be situated in Dogonruwa (Gombe south), Garin Hardo (Gombe central), and Tudun Wada (central) senatorial districts, with instructions given in English, Arabic and other popular languages in the areas.
The Chairman said the schools would be established for the purposes of increasing the number of enrolments of students, thereby reducing the number of out-of-school children, exposing them to more information and improving their communication skills.
He noted that the construction of the model boarding Almajiri School in the Yulunguruzu quarters of the state metropolis has been approved by the Gombe state government.
Babadidi assured that the soon-to-be-completed construction would be furnished with facilities found in conventional schools across the state.
He added that formal education would also be taught in the schools to blend them with orthodox schools.
“It is the responsibility of government to provide education to all manner of people; we do not want them to be going around without a formal education.
“We want the Almajirai to acquire both Islamic and western education in order to be better citizens tomorrow,” he said.
