Female Student Mistakenly Shot Dead By Police In Ogun

Police personnel have erroneously shot dead a female student around Enugada, Abeokuta on Thursday.

The personnel, attached to Operation MESA, it was gathered, were chasing after suspected internet fraudsters (Yahoo boys) when the ugly incident occurred.

It was gathered that a bullet fired by the security operatives mistakenly hit Sadist, the 17-year-old SS 2 student in the head.

The victim, it was further gathered, was shot while she and others were walking out of the school premises after the close of school for the day.

The development led other students to protest at the Enu-Gada Police station in Ago Ika area of Abeokuta where they pelted police operatives on duty with stones and other harmful objects, forcing the officers to disperse them.

Confirming the development, the Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, revealed that he was not aware of the death of any student.

Oyeyemi said the security operatives were not chasing any internet fraudster but, a notorious cultist, who had for a long time, been on the Police wanted list.

He added that a Police Inspector was macheted on the head during the crisis.

The student and the Police officer who was injured by the protesters were rushed to Federal Medical Hospital, Idi-Aba for treatment where she was confirmed dead.
