Ferguson Scores Hat-Trick As Brighton Outgun Newcastle

Republic of Ireland striker Evan Ferguson scored a hat-trick as Brighton won 3-1 against Newcastle in Saturday's Premier League clash.

It marked his first career hat-trick, making him only the fourth player to score a top-flight hat-trick before their 19th birthday after Chris Bart-Williams, Robbie Fowler and Michael Owen.

Brighton drew first blood on 27 minutes through Ferguson, who pounced from close range after goalkeeper Nick Pope had spilled Billy Gilmour's long-range effort.

The 18-year-old made it 2-0 on 65 minutes when he curled home a beauty from 25 yards, leaving Pope helpless

He then hit another five minutes later, via a huge Fabian Schar deflection, for his first hat-trick.

Newcastle reduced the deficit in stoppage time with a goal from Callum Wilson, who chased down a long ball to fire home.

The goal proved to only be a consolation goal as the Seagulls condemned the Magpies to a third defeat on the spin.

Both sides now head into the international break having discovered their European groups this week after a remarkable campaign last term.
