Real Madrid ace David Alaba has been commended by the federal government for donating a biodegradable toilet to Ogere Remo community in Ogun State.
Speaking in a statement on Friday, the Minister of Water Resources, Suleiman Adamu, stated that involvement in the private sector is vital in ending the practice of open defecation in the country.
According to him, the initiative by Alaba and his foundation is worthy of emulation as the quest to end open defecation requires the contribution and commitment of all stakeholders.
Adamu called on Nigerians in Diaspora to support the campaign through private sector engagement, adding that under the Clean Nigeria Campaign, 84 LGAs were now Open Defecation Free (ODF).
“Jigawa is on the verge of achieving a state-wide ODF status with just one more LGA to go, Nigeria has been given the hosting rights for the 2022 World Toilet Summit and we want active participation,", he said.
Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun lauded Alaba, calling him a true Nigerian while adding that the gesture is a new dimension in community development for a better society.
He further assured the state government’s resolve to maintain toilets in public places such as parks and markets.
