FG Establishes Pad Bank For Female Staff In Water Resources

The Federal Government has established a pad bank for the female staff of the Ministry of Water Resources, to help tackle menstrual hygiene in the workplace.

A statement by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Women Affairs, Olujimi Oyetomi, said Dame Pauline Tallen, the Minister for Women Affairs unveiled the bank at the headquarters of the Ministry of Water Resources in Abuja on Monday.

She emphasised the need for more pad banks in workplaces noting, that this would increase productivity by women workforce in office places.

"The menstrual sanitary pad bank in workplaces and organisations is meant to enhance hygiene in our workplaces, schools, banks and even markets, Airports and other places.  

"The commemoration of the World Menstrual Health and Hygiene Day is usually celebrated on the 28th of May, every year, and the 2022 edition with the theme, 'Making menstruation a normal fact of life by 2030' will enhance more productivity of women and girls of menstrual age.

The minister further revealed that there is remarkable progress concerning the menstrual sanitary pad bank now as about five Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) including the Federal Ministry of Water Resources have mounted a menstrual sanitary pad bank on their premises.

While expressing appreciation to the Minister of Water Resources for taking up the challenge, which she stated has earned him the title of 'HEforSHE.'

On his part, Minister of Water Resources, Engr. Suleiman Hussein Adamu thanked the Minister for the great move reiterating that the pad bank in offices will create an avenue for more output and can also make learning much easier for girl-children in schools.
