The Nigeria International Energy Summit (N.I.E.S), formerly known as the Nigeria International Petroleum Summit, conference producers and organisers Brevity Anderson Consortium have been granted a seven-year contract extension by the Federal Government.

After assessment and approval by the Federal Executive Council (FEC), the extension was approved.

The Minister of Communication and Culture, Lai Mohammed, reportedly addressed the media on the contract extension following a routine FEC meeting, according to a statement released by the event's organisers on Monday.

Mohammed reported that the Ministry of Petroleum Resources and Messrs Brevity Anderson Consortium, who serve as consultants and the producers of the Energy Summit, presented a memo to FEC outlining a seven-year contract extension.

The summit was envisioned as a pan-African and corporate meeting to advance Africa's integration of energy in the continent, the minister said, adding that the document was accepted by the council.

He said that Nigeria's requirement to head up sizable delegations to the biennial Offshore Technology Conference in Houston, USA, has diminished.

“We have been able to save a considerable amount of foreign exchange, we have been able to attract foreign exchange and we have also been able to attract more jobs through this summit,” Mohammed added.

James Shindi, the Nigeria International Energy Summit's project director, and Brevity Anderson's chief executive claimed that the government, policymakers, and the sector as a whole have accepted some of the summit's amazing results.

“Social benefits from the event have trickled down to include massive uptick in the patronage of the hospitality industry and the involvement of Nigerian artistes and cultural ambassadors.

“We are indeed very proud of what have been able to achieve with the summit from inception,” Shindi said.

The summit's sixth iteration, which made its debut in 2018, will take place in Abuja from April 16 to April 20, 2023.

The the theme of the summit is: “Global Perspectives for a Sustainable Energy Future.”
