The Federal Government has extended the timeframe for the NIN-SIM linkage to enable people to register within the next few days.

The federal government further urged Nigerians and legal residents of the country to register as soon as possible.

The linkage of the National Identification Number (NIN) and Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) was supposed to be closed by March 31, 2022, as extended in December last year.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Director, Public Affairs, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and Head, Corporate Communications for the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Kayode Adegoke.

The statement which was made available on Thursday read that “The general public would recall that the Federal Government approved an extension of the NIN-SIM linkage deadline to the 31st of March, 2022.

“In preparation for the enforcement, the Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim (Pantami) urges citizens and legal residents to use the next few days to ensure that they complete the linkage.

“To this end, the Honourable Minister has further directed that the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) should offer enrolment services round-the-clock for the next few days. Professor Pantami also thanks all those who have completed their NIN-SIM linkage."

The statement further stated that people should try and enrol within the window of opportunity made available to them.
