FG launches 500 housing units project in Kano

The Federal Government has initiated the ceremony for the construction of 500 housing units in Kano, marking a step forward in its plan to build 1,250 housing units across four states in Northern Nigeria.

The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Alhaji Ahmed Dangiwa, led the event in Lambo, Tofa Local Government Area of Kano on Thursday.

The project dubbed "Renewed Hope 500 Housing Estate and Cities" aims to provide affordable housing options for Nigerians.

"The Renewed Hope City in Kano will feature 100 units of one-bedroom semi-detached bungalows, 300 units of two-bedroom semi-detached bungalows, and 100 units of three-bedroom semi-detached bungalows.”

He stressed the importance of adhering to quality standards and timely completion, warning contractors against delivering substandard work.

The minister also highlighted various purchase options available to facilitate home ownership, including single-digit mortgage loans, Rent-to-Own schemes, and outright purchase options.

“Construction of each housing unit is expected to create an average of 25 direct and indirect jobs, translating to approximately 6,250 jobs for the entire project,” he said.

He further noted that the houses were designed with affordability and future expansion in mind, enabling homeowners to expand their living spaces as their incomes grow.

"The funding for these projects comes from the N50 billion 2023 Supplementary Budget of the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.”

In his remarks, Governor Abba Kabir commended the federal government for the initiative, expressing optimism that the housing project would contribute to the transformation of Kano into a global city.
