FIFA has suspended four players from the Uruguayan national team for their behaviour towards the referee after their World Cup 2022 match against Ghana.

Fernando Muslera and Jose Maria Gimenez received four-match bans. Diego Godin and Edinson Cavani were suspended for one game each.

The players will also have to carry out football-related community service. They will pay fines of up to 20,000 Swiss francs.

The Uruguayan FA was also fined 50,000 Swiss francs for the behaviour of its team members and supporters.

Uruguay were ordered to partially close their stadium for their next FIFA "A" international match as hosts.
