Rumours about George Finidi no longer acting as the first assistant coach to Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro have been rendered void by the former Super Eagles winger in a recent interview.
Finidi insisted that he remains Peseiro's first assistant coach while doubling as the head coach of Nigeria Premier League outfit, Enyimba.
He clarified that his absence in Super Eagles’ last outings against Guinea-Bissau has nothing to do with him getting fired by the Nigeria Football Federation, adding that he’ll join the Eagles' camp next once he is done with his duty at Enyimba.
“I’m still the first assistant to Jose Peseiro and will come next week,” Finidi told a radio programme, Sports Salsa.
"I think the camp opens for the players to come.
"And I think I’ll be there if things don’t get twisted.
“But first thing first, let me finish this duty with Enyimba, and if things go well, I will be in camp.”
The Super Eagles will be in action against Sierra Leone next week for their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying fixture and hopefully, Finidi will return to the dugout.
