Fiorentina President Brands West Ham 'Animals' Over Incident

Fiorentina president Rocco Commisso has branded West Ham “animals” following the harmful incident that occurred in Wednesday's Europa Conference League final.

There were scenes of Fiorentina players bleeding on the night as West Ham won the match 2-1 courtesy of Jarrod Bowen's last-minute winner to end a 43-year wait for a major trophy for the Hammers.

Luka Jovic was the first player whose blood was first spilled after picking up a knock to his nose seconds before the end of the first half, hence resulting in him being subbed off at halftime.

The next victim was Cristiano Biraghi who was hit by a barrage of plastic beer cups and a vape pen thrown by West Ham fans during the first half which caused him to bleed from the head.

The Viola captain however received medical attention and remained on the pitch for the entire match.

Consequently, Commisso expressed his dissatisfaction over the way his players were treated, while launching vitriol at the Hammers.

“There have been episodes on the pitch where the referee had to make the difference,” Commisso told reporters after his return to Florence on Thursday morning, as quoted by Firenzeviola.

“[Luka] Jovic came out with a broken nose, Biraghi with a cut on his head.

"I spoke to the Premier League President, telling him those of West Ham are all animals for how they treated our footballers.

“The defeat is not fair. We could have won 3-0, I am sorry for the fans who deserved more.”

West Ham however condemned the behavior of a small number of individuals, promising to take action against anyone found to have committed an offence and ban them from attending matches at the London Stadium.
