Property worth millions of naira were on Thursday afternoon destroyed when an inferno gutted a section of the Delta State Police Command headquarters.

The fire outbreak reportedly started from the control room of the command causing panic among police personnel and passersby and raised fear of possible attack as a roadblock was mounted at the headquarters two weeks ago.

The fire was said to have destroyed property worth millions of naira at the command headquarters.

It was learnt that the early arrival of personnel of the Federal Fire Service to extinguish the fire prevented it from escalating to other parts of the command headquarters.

When contacted, the acting Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident and said the inferno was immediately extinguished.
