Firefox New Feature Removes Automatic Tracking For URLs

The most recent version of Mozilla's Firefox browser has been designed with a new feature that prohibits companies like Facebook from monitoring you across websites.

The new feature known as "Query Parameter Stripping" is intended to automatically remove strings of characters added to a URL's end that enable Facebook, Hubspot, Olytics, and other businesses to track your clicks and deliver tailored advertisements.

The string of letters and numbers that comes just after the question mark on a link that comes from Facebook is a query parameter that can let a business know when you click on a link and help them profile you for ad targeting.

The most recent version of Firefox has a stripping feature that will delete such characters before loading the URL, keeping Facebook in the dark.

It utilises a blocklist and protects Facebook, Marketo, HubSpot, Drip, Olytics, and Vero.

To activate the feature, simply choose "Strict" for "Enhanced Tracking Protection" in the Privacy & Security settings

That doesn't function in Private Mode, but as Bleeping Computer notes, you can enable it there as well by typing "about:config" in the address bar, looking for "strip," and setting the 'privacy.query stripping.enabled.pbmode' option to true.
