The Chairman of the Alliance on Surviving COVID-19 and Beyond (ASCAB), Femi Falana has reacted to the ongoing strike and protest by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Kaduna State.
Falana said that firm action is needed to reverse the massive attacks on jobs in Kaduna State.
On Monday, the NLC staged a protest to press home its demands to the general public, especially to the Kaduna State Government which sacked over 7,000 civil servants.
In April, the Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, announced his decision to sack some civil servants in the state, citing fiscal reasons.
But the human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), backed the decision of the NLC as it embarked on a five-day strike.
Falana also called on well-meaning Nigerians to render support for the industrial action, which he described as essential.
“Firm action is needed to reverse the massive attacks on jobs and poverty-induced insecurity in Kaduna State,” he said via a statement issued on Sunday.
“Alliance on Surviving COVID-19 and beyond (ASCAB) fully supports the call from the NLC for a five-day strike across Kaduna State in the week beginning May 17. We call on all our affiliates and supporters to provide support for this essential strike.”
