First Set Of Nigerian Returnees From UAE Arrive In Lagos

First Set Of Nigerian Returnees From UAE Arrive In Lagos

Nigeria has received the first set of returnees from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Wednesday.

The returnees arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport on Wednesday evening a few hours behind their arrival schedule.

The flight was reported to have been delayed, as it was expected to land at 3 pm, after it made a recourse to Dubai after a heavily pregnant woman who was delivered on the flight had some complications.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, disclosed this via Twitter.

He said, “The Flight conveying 256 Nigerians evacuated from Dubai has landed Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.”

As stated by the government, all returnees will be subjected to a 14-day quarantine process before being allowed into the country.

The Minister had mentioned that the country lacked the capacity to admit the number of returnees for quarantining, adding that, for that reason, they will be evacuated in sets.

He said, “Most of the hotels do not want to get into a situation of being used as quarantine centres, notwithstanding the fact that they are all empty; but they, for some reason, seem to prefer to remain empty than to be places of quarantine."
