Five Facts About Okey Ahiwe, The Winner Of The Just Concluded Abia PDP Primary

Following the sudden death of Professor Uche Ikonne, the initial PDP standard bearer in the 2023 gubernatorial election. Okey Ahiwe has emerged as the new contestant in the party.

The Chairman of the PDP Primary Election Committee, Governor Godwin Obaseki, declared Ahiwe the winner today at the Umuahia Township Stadium, Umuahia, Abia state after a stern primary election.

Here are five facts about the new gubernatorial election:

He claimed the ticket on a landslide

Ahiwe pulled his other aspirants down with little stress.

Out of 516 total vote cast, Okey Ahiwe swept 469 votes relegating Rt. Hon. Ude Oko Chukwu and Don Lulu with 12 Votes each, while Samson Orji came out shorter with 11 votes altogether.

He is not new to Abia state government or politics

Okey Ahiwe was a former Chief of Staff to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State.

He was a strong force in the campaign council for the Governorship elections in Abia state.

He has also been part of the National sub-committees of PDP for the conduct of party primaries in cross river & Oyo states.

In April 2022, he was appointed as the Chief of Staff to the governor of Abia State and was also a former member of the Abia state security trust fund.

He is an oil mogul

He is one of those professionals in politics Nigeria can boast of.

Okey Ahiwe owns Ambrokah investments ltd and Powertrim Nigeria Limited, which is in the Maritime sub-sector of the Oil & gas industry supporting major multinational oil firms.

Some unconfirmed reports suggest that he is worth $5 million.

Three strong candidates surrendered their interests for him

Before the primary election, Chief Bob Ogu, Hon. Eric Opia, and Ezinwayi Jonas, announced their stepping down for Ahaiwe and appealed to all their supporters to root for the oil mogul instead.

The other candidate who didn’t step down for him had zero vote

A one-time State chairman of PDP and 3rd Republic Senator, Emma Nwaka, who refused to bury his aspiration for Ahiwe, scored zero votes.

Sources who pleaded anonymity told AllNews Nigeria’s politics desk that he is the anointed successor of the outgoing governor of the state and he manouvered his way into the scene dumping other aspirants into the cleaners in the best way he could.
