Five Nigerian Celebrities Born In September

Here is a short biography of five Nigerian celebrities born this month. We’ve picked Toyin Abraham, 2Baba, Cynthia Morgan, Bovi, and Joke Silva.

Toyin Abraham - September 1984

Toyin Abraham is a popular Nollywood actress who is loved for her ability to interpret movie roles.

Her name was Olutoyin Aimakhu, but she officially changed to Toyin Abraham in 2016. According to her, the change was her family’s decision.

Toyin is an actress, filmmaker, producer, scriptwriter, director, and entrepreneur who was born on September 5, 1984, in Auchi, Edo state. She started her education in Oba Kenzo Nursery and Primary School, Benin. Her father later retired and moved the whole family to Ibadan, their original hometown.

In Ibadan, she attended St. Annes School (now Queen’s Staff School). After her secondary education, she obtained a National Diploma in Business Studies from Iree Polytechnic, Osun State. She also bagged a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Marketing from The Polytechnic, Ibadan. Toyin went up the academic ladder to get a Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophical Sciences from Olabisi Onabanjo University.

She began her acting career in 2003 when she featured in the movie ‘Dugbe Dugbe Nbo’ which was produced by Bukky Wright, another Nollywood actress. Toyin initially started out with minor roles, but she has ever since rose to become an influential actress in the Nigerian movie industry.

 

2Baba - September 18, 1976

2Baba was born Innocent Ujah Idibia. He is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, record producer, humanitarian, philanthropist, and entrepreneur.

Innocent Idibia was born in Jos, and he is from the Idoma ethnic group in the Southern part of Benue.

2Baba started his National Diploma programme in business administration and management from the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT). He started his musical career while he was in IMT. He performed at shows and parties, as well as other regional schools such as the University of Nigeria and Enugu State University of Science and Technology. He later dropped out to pursue music fully.

In 1996, 2Baba composed and sang jingles at Enugu State Broadcasting Services (ESBS). He embraced the stage name ‘2face’ or ‘Tu Face’ in 1996 and officially changed it to 2Baba in 2016.

2Baba partnered with Blackface and Faze, to form the trio band, Plantashun Boiz in 2000.

Under Dove Records, the band released two successful albums; Body and Soul in 2000 and Sold Out in 2003. In 2004, the band broke up, and its members went their separate ways to start their solo careers. In 2007, they came back together to record a third and final album titled, Plan B.

 

Cynthia Morgan (Madrina) - September 23, 1991

Cynthia Morgan (now Madrina) is a Nigerian-born songwriter, hip-hop and dance hall artist, recording artiste, stage performer, and a model.

Cynthia Ikponmwebosa Morgan was born on September 23, 1991, in Benin City, Edo State, where she completed her secondary education. She was raised by a single mother who is now a top gospel artist in Edo state.

She started off as a backup singer for her mother’s gospel musical band at the age of 3. At 7, Cynthia started singing and composing her songs. At 17, she released her debut single titled ‘Dutty Stepping’ featuring Pype. Thereafter, Cynthia moved to Lagos to pursue and promote her musical career.

On August 13, 2013, she signed a deal with Northside Entertainment Incorporation, a record label owned by Jude Okoye. She subsequently released two singles ‘Don’t Break My Heart’ and ‘Lead Me On’ which catapulted her into the limelight.

However, in May 2020, Cynthia Morgan disclosed she lost her stage name, royalties, VEVO account, Instagram account, and other things owing to the contract she signed with Jude Okoye via Instagram live session. She also said she fell into depression after her fallout with Jude Okoye but did not go public on the issue.

 

Bovi – September 25, 1979

Bovi is a stand-up comedian, actor, writer, television personality, master of ceremony, presenter, producer, and director.

His full name is Abovi Ugboma and he was born on September 25, 1979, in Benin City, Edo State. He went to the University of Benin Staff School for his primary education. He attended Government College, Ughelli, and Edokpolor Grammar School for his secondary education but completed it in Boys Model Secondary School, all in Delta State. After secondary education, he bagged a degree in Theatre Arts from Delta State University.

During Bovi’s NYSC days, he served as a reporter at NTA and then relocated to Lagos. He worked as Richard Mofe Damijo’s Personal Assistant from 2004 till 2006. During his time as a personal assistant, he was trained and mentored by Mofe Damijo. He later went on to start his own production team in September 2006.

Bovi began his comedy career in April 2007 when he starred in ‘Extended Family’, a sitcom which he wrote and produced. The show was very popular and by 2008, Bovi became one of the most sought after comedians in Nigeria.

His big break came in 2013 when he featured as a stand-up comedian in ‘Nite of 1000 Laughs’ organized by Opa William. Bovi has organized a stand-up comedy concert ‘Bovi Man on Fire’ which featured international superstars Ja Rule and Ashanti. He also hosted it in several cities in the USA, London, Melbourne, and Toronto. The Fourth edition was held in April 2019 in Lagos and the comedian maintained that it will be the last of ‘Man on Fire’. According to Bovi, his next one will have a new title.

Bovi has worked with several Nigerian comedians like Basketmouth, Julius Agwu, I Go Dye, Buchi amongst others.

 

Joke Silva - September 29, 1961

Joke Silva is a Nigerian actress, director, entrepreneur, scriptwriter, producer, investor, businesswoman, and philanthropist.

Joke Silva was born on September 29 to Amaro Family in Lagos. She had her secondary education at the Holy Child College, Lagos. Upon completing her secondary education, she relocated to England, where she studied drama at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art.

She came back to Nigeria and joined the University of Lagos Culture Centre, which later became the department of creative arts.

Her professional acting career began in the early 90s. The first movie she starred in was ‘Mind-Bending’, and since then Joke has featured in numerous films and television series in both the English and Yoruba. Joke Silva has acted in over 200 Nollywood movies which include; The Grave Dust, Violated, Owurolojo, Violated, The Royal Hibiscus Hotel, Timeless, Shylock, A Past Came Calling, The Visitor, Potato Potahto, 30 Days, Bandits, Kada River, Last Wedding, Chief Daddy and many more.

In 1998, she starred alongside Colin Firth and Nia Long I a British-Canadian movie, ‘The Secret Laughter of Women in which she portrayed Nene.

Joke Silva is one of the most gifted, creative, and talented actress in Nollywood, with a good command of the English Language.

In October 2012, Joke Silva was appointed a Goodwill Ambassador by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.
