Fixtures congestion frustrates Guardiola despite FA Cup fina

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was left to wonder why his team were made to play two huge games within the space of 72 hours after their midweek Champions League commitments.

The treble winners of last season were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League by Real Madrid on Wednesday and on Saturday evening faced Chelsea at Wembley Stadium.

The Cityzens were held by Mauricio Pochettino's boys unto Bernado Silva broke the deadlock with six minutes left on the clock.

In his post-match press conference monitored by Allnews.ng, Guardiola expressed his frustrations albeit was proud of the efforts of his team.

"The performance was one of the greatest things I’ve ever seen from this group of players," Guardiola gushed. "After the Champions League against Madrid, I told the players ‘don’t fight against your feelings. You are sad? It’s fine. You are disappointed? It’s fine.

The Spaniard then turned his attention to the difficult week the team faced.

"Why not give us one more day?,’ the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach pondered. It’s unacceptable to play today, we play in incredibly difficult conditions. It’s unsustainable," he added.

"‘It’s common sense. I’m not asking for something special or privileged. Tell me you guys don’t agree with me!"

City will face the winner of the Manchester United versus Coventry City game on Sunday evening.
