Flood: Gombe Governor Promises Support To Victims In Funakay

The Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has promised to support victims of flood that wreaked havoc following heavy downpour in Funakaye Local Government Area of the state. 

This was contained in a statement made available by the Director-General Press Affairs to the governor, Ismaila Uba Misilli on Monday.

According to the statement, the governor made this known through a government delegation that visited communities that were affected by the flood.

The delegation was headed by the commissioner for Environment and Forest Resources, Alhaji Shehu Ibrahim Madugu. 

According to reports, the flood claimed the life of a three-year-old while his two-year-old sibling survived with injuries. 

Governor Yahaya directed the State Emergency Agency (SEMA) and the Ministry of Environment to visit the scene and assess the level of damage while supporting victims of the disaster.

The delegation was made up of the Commissioner for Internal Security, Hon Adamu Dishi Kupto, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Environment, Ibrahim Sule Bage and representative of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) among others. 

The Chairman of Funakaye Local Government Area, Alhaji Ibrahim Cheldu alongside stakeholders in the council area received the delegation. 

The head of the delegation, Madugu conveyed the governor's condolences while sympathising with the community over the damages caused by the flood.

In his remark, he said, "The essence of our visit today is to primary condole with you over this natural disaster that engulfed your communities as well as assess the level of damages caused with a view to developing an interventional recommendation to government so as to bring succour to the victims. 

"His Excellency, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya would have personally visited you but directed us to be here on his behalf because he travelled outside the State for an official engagement."

The chairman of Funakaye, Cheldu praised the governor for his prompt response to aidbthe affected communities. 

The delegation further visited the Emir of Funakaye, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Mu'azu Mohammed Kwairanga to condole with him over the losses recorded due to the disaster.
