No fewer than Seventeen communities have been submerged by flood in Toto local government area of Nasarawa state following heavy downpour in the state.
This was disclosed by the executive chairman of the council area, Abdullahi Aliyu on Wednesday.
Aliyu who visited some of the affected communities to assess level of devastation described the incident as unfortunate.
Aliyu who was represented by his Deputy, Abubakar kwanaki said the visit was to assess the level of damages caused by the flood.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), he said: “We are here to see things for ourselves, the level of damages caused by the flood.
“It is unfortunate that the flood had wreak havoc in Umaisha Development Area and submerged over 17 communities and destroyed properties worth millions of Naira including houses, farmlands, schools, clinic among others."
The chairman who was at Umaisha development area commiserated with the traditional ruler of the community over the incident.
While appealing to the state government to support victims of the flood, he said: “The council will do all it can within its power to assist the victims of the flood and we will report to the state government for urgent intervention."
Aliyu further called on people on the flood risk zones to relocate.
