Flood Victims Get Relief Materials From Agencies In Kano

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in collaboration with the Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has distributed relief materials to 406 vulnerable persons and flood victims in Kiru Local Government Area of the state.

The Director-General NEMA, Mustapha Habib, while distributing the materials on Saturday to the beneficiaries said the relief items were meant to bring succour to the victims.

Habib, represented by NEMA Coordinator, Kano Territorial Office, Dr Nuradeen Abdullahi, said the donation was part of the Federal Government effort to support the victims of disasters across the country.

He listed the distributed items as maize, rice, millet, guinea corn, noodles, beans, tomato paste, seasoning cubes, vegetable oil, cement, nails, roofing sheets and ceiling boards.

The director-general urged the general public to adhere to early warning rainfall prediction by the Nigeria Metrological Agency (NiMet) to reduce destruction by flood.

On his part, Kano Governor Abdullahi Ganduje said 306 victims of flood and 100 vulnerable persons benefitted from the 7,415 bags of grains approved by President Muhammadu Buhari from the National Strategic Reserve Stock to be distributed in Kano.

Ganduje, represented by the Executive Secretary SEMA, Dr Saleh Jili, commended Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Candidate, Dr Bola Tinubu, for donating relief materials to flood victims in the state.

He advised members of the public, especially women using firewood, cooking gas and charcoal to handle fire with care and cultivate the habit of switching off electrical appliances whenever they were going out or going to bed, to avoid inferno during harmattan.

Ganduje also called on residents to desist from dumping of refuse and clear their drainages to avert flooding.
