Former Lawmaker Declared Wanted Over Beheading Of Ebubeagu Security Operative

Former Lawmaker Declared Wanted Over Beheading Of Ebubeagu S

Former National Assembly Member, Honourable Linus Okorie has been declared wanted by the Ebonyi State government.

Honourable Okorie who represented Ohanaivo Federal Constituency between 2011-2019 was accused of publishing inciting statements on social media that led to the beheading of an EbubeAgu Security operative in Ikwo Local Government.

The declaration was made during a joint press briefing by the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Cletus Ofoke and the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Uchenna Orji after an enlarged security meeting held at the New Government House, Abakaliki.

The State Government accused, Honourable Okorie of inciting a statement on his Facebook page which heated the polity in the state particularly in the Ikwo Local Government Area.

It would be recalled that an operative of Ebubeagu Security outfit, Nwafor Sunday was last two weeks shot dead and beheaded by gunmen.

Honourable Linus is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and a known critic of the state government.

He said; “Council considered a report presented to it by security agencies on the beheading of an Ebubeagu official in Ikwo local government area on January 9, 2022”.

“The Council noted the report on the issues and the revelation contained in the report and therefore resolved to declare wanted one Honourable Linus Okorie for the publication of inciting statements some of which were posted on Facebook that were traced to be part of the inflammatory publications that incited and caused tension that led to the beheading of the Ebubeagu official”.

Orji said the council noted that some other persons were accessories to the gruesome murder of the operative.

Orji stated that the council urged security agencies to expedite action on the investigation to bring all those involved to face the law.

When contacted, Okorie said that he has never been invited for questioning by the police for any crime at all, adding that if he was invited and had failed to attend, “there is a lawful procedure through the courts to comply with before I could be declared wanted by the police, and not any security council meeting”.

“The media pronouncement of the declaration contained no particulars of the allegation against me so the public can make an informed assessment or I could offer a response”.

He said that the declaration is a plot by the state government to not only close his lawful business in the state but a ploy to unleash Ebubeagu Operatives to kill him in the excuse that he was running away from arrest.
