Former NPF star, OJ Simpson dies at 76

Orenthal James 'OJ' Simpson, the former American football icon, who was famously acquitted of murder charges, has succumbed to cancer.

Simpson’s death was made known by his family on X, formerly Twitter, on Thursday.

“On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren.

“During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace,” the brief from the family read.

Simpson gained prominence as a college football player in the 1970s before transitioning to the Nigeria Football League.

According to BBC report, he retired in 1979 to pursue opportunities in the film and television industry.

In 1994, he faced arrest as a suspect in the murder of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown, and her friend, Ron Goldman, a case that captivated the nation.

Goldman was discovered fatally stabbed outside Brown's Los Angeles residence, prompting immediate scrutiny of Simpson.

He passed away at the age of 76.
