Former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, was arrested on Tuesday on several corruption charges.
This added further unrest to the already tumultuous political climate in the country.
Khan's close aide and former information minister, Fawad Chaudhry, expressed his concern regarding Khan's arrest, stating that their workers were being subjected to violence.
Khan's supporters protested his arrest and clashed with riot police as he was being taken from the premises of Islamabad High Court, where he was supposed to appear in connection with a bail application.
According to a security official who spoke with dpa, Khan was arrested on one of the many corruption charges he faces.
Khan, who became Prime Minister of Pakistan after a contested election in 2018, was removed from office by parliament in April of this year through a no-confidence vote.
Since his removal, he has been facing numerous legal challenges, including several corruption charges.
His arrest has sparked widespread concern and could further destabilize the country's political climate.
