Former President of Mali, Amadou Toumani Toure, has died, at the age of 72, as disclosed by a relative.
Speaking with AFP, the former leader's nephew, Oumar Toure, said, “Amadou Toumani Toure died during the night of Monday to Tuesday in Turkey.”
Toure, who was taken out of office by a coup, led the West African nation for 10 years.
Prior to his ousting, Toure had instituted democratic reforms in Mali as an army general, a milestone for the nation that brought him praises.
