The former President of Mali, Ibrahim Boubacar Keita have been reported dead on Sunday at his home in Bamako.
Ibrahim Boubacar Keita was the President of Mali from 2013 to 2020, before he was toppled by the Military in 2020.
A family member told AFP about his passing away, the reports said; "President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita died on Sunday morning at his home in Bamako."
Several other members of his family confirmed the news, as the cause for his death were not revealed.
Keita rose into politics under Alpha Oumar Konare, the first president of the country (1992-2002) and he also served as the Prime Minister of the country from 1994 to 2000.
He won the seat of the Malian presidency in Bamako, in 2013 and was also re-elected in 2018 before he was relieved of powers in a August 2020 coup.
Mali has been in a serious security and political crisis since the outbreak of independence and jihadist insurgencies in 2012, and has also been facing heavy sanctions from ECOWAS for a week.
