Former Sokoto Governor, Tambuwal faces inquiry panel

The former Governor of Sokoto State, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, appeared before the Sokoto State judicial commission of inquiry on Saturday to testify regarding actions taken by his administration during his tenure as governor.

The commission was established by his successor, Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, to investigate certain matters related to Tambuwal's time in office.

Accompanied by his legal team and some officials from his administration, including the former Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Muhammad Mainasara Ahmad, former Chief of Staff Muktar Magori, and former Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice Barrister Dr. Sulaiman Usman, SAN, among others, Tambuwal presented himself before the commission.

However, Tambuwal was unable to testify on that day as he was asked to return on another date, which will be communicated to him by the commission.

In a statement shared on his social media handle, Senator Tambuwal emphasized the importance of upholding the rule of law and respecting constituted authorities.

He highlighted his administration's track record of integrity in public service and reiterated the principle that no one, regardless of their position, should be above the law.

Speaking in his social media handle, the Senator representing Sokoto South Senatorial District said, "Earlier today, I appeared before the Justice Mu'azu Abdulkadir Pindiga led Sokoto State Judicial Commission of Inquiry Instituted by my successor, H.E, Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto.

"I was accompanied by my legal team and some officials of my administration including the ex-SSG, Muhammad Mainasara Ahmad, ex-Chief of Staff, Muktar Magori, ex-Attorney General, and Commissioner of Justice, Barrister Dr. Sulaiman Usman, SAN, among others.

"Our track record of integrity in public service speaks for us, always.

"In leading the younger generation, we must instil in them utmost respect for the rule of law and constituted authorities. "As citizens, we should realize that no one, no matter how highly placed, should be above the laws of the land, most specifically, the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria"

He further said, "this, amongst other things, brings out the beauty in democracy. "I wish the commission the very best in its sitting" he added.

Tambuwal expressed his support for the commission's work and wished them success in their proceedings, underscoring the significance of democracy and adherence to the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
