French Open: Gauff, Siniakova see off Italian pair Paolini, Errani, win doubles title

French Open: Gauff, Siniakova see off Italian pair Paolini,

American Coco Gauff may not have won the women's singles titles in the Roland Garros but on Sunday she clinched the French Open women’s doubles title with partner Katerina Siniakova, beating Italian duo Jasmine Paolini and Sara Errani 7-6(5), 6-3 to leave Paris with a shared trophy.

Paolini had 24 hours earlier lost to Iga Swiatek in the final of the singles final.

The victory on Sunday afternoon was US Open queen, Gauff, and Siniakova’s first time playing together, with Gauff’s usual partner, fellow American world No. 5 singles player Jessica Pegula, ruled out of the Roland Garros with injury.

Gauff and seven-time champion Grand Slam champion, Siniakova, pounced on Errani’s faulty serves but the Italians were able to do the same in spates to Siniakova, with the pairs trading breaks on those serves through to a tiebreak.

The latest feat is Gauff’s first Grand Slam doubles title, having lost two finals — the French Open in 2022, and the U.S. Open in 2021. Siniakova has now won eight, all with fellow Czech Barbora Krejcikova, but they parted ways after the 2023 season.

The winning pair were spectacular in the women’s singles draw, losing to eventual champion Iga Swiatek in the semifinal and final respectively.
