French Open: Swiatek beats Gauff, ties with tennis great Nav

French Open defending champion, Iga Swiatek, Thursday evening, beat Coco Gauff 6-2, 6-4 to reach her fourth Roland-Garros final at Roland Garros.

The defeat was more damaging to the emotional American, Gauff, who has now lost 11 times to the world number 1 who has only been beaten once by her opponent.

Swiatek broke Gauff in the opening set of the match and saved a break point in each of her first two service games, then earned the second break to go up 4-1 en route to taking the first set.

The victory has tied Swiatek with tennis great Martina Navratilova to become the woman with the joint-most wins from their first 10 Grand Slam matches against players ranked in the top 10 in the last 40 years.

Thursday's win for Swiatek against Gauff at Roland Garros came many years after she beat the 20-year-old American in the final in 2022 and the quarter-finals in 2023.

Gauff will, however, rise to number two on Monday when the next WTA ranking will be released.
