The Osun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has revealed that it planned to deploy a total number of 1,050 personnel to ensure a hitch free vehicular movement in and out of Osun during and after the Yuletide holidays.

Stating this in Osogbo during the kickoff of the 2021/2022 Ember months and operation zero tolerance campaign in Osogbo on Thursday, the Sector Commander, Paul Okpe explained that about 750 regular officers and 300 special marshals would be deployed to strategic locations in the state to prevent accidents.

Okpe also disclosed that the command intended to deploy more patrol vehicles and towing vans to areas it considered as black spots before during and after the holidays.

The Sector Commander stated that the machines would also be manned by capable and experienced personnel.

He also stated that the ember months campaign was also targeted at motorists using using expired tyres which would lead to accidents and loss of lives and property.

In his words, "Osun Sector Command is moving across the state to sensitise road users on the dangers associated with the use of expired tyres on the highways.

"Road users should be safety conscious and to ensure that they abide by the provisions of the Road Traffic Act.

"We also seek the support of stakeholders in the transport sector to actualise our goals of reducing road traffic crashes on the highways."

The theme of the 2021/2022 Ember months and operation zero tolerance campaign is “Maintain Safe Speed, Avoid Night Travel And Enjoy Quality Road Experience”.
