FRSC: To Use Google Maps, Get A Phone Holder Or Get Arrested

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) gives Nigerians conditions upon which they can utilize Google's web mapping service, Google Maps.

FRSC Corps Marshall, Boboye Oyeyemi, made this conditions clear on Wednesday in Abuja, at a press conference.

According to him, the only time road users are allowed to use Google Maps is with the support of phone holders placed on dashboards. He also stated that any driver caught holding their phone while navigating the roads using the service will be arrested and prosecuted.

He said, “The use of google map while driving is allowed, but hand-held driving and usage are offences associated with driving and anyone caught would face the law squarely.

“If you must use Google map while driving, you must get the car-holding phone devices which is both for your safety and for better usage of the device and the application.”

He added that the FRSC would collaborate with the Nigeria Police Force to make sure that siren and convoy users and abusers will be promptly prosecuted and will have their vehicles impounded.

Boboye made it clear that those who abuse sirens and convoys are mostly private owners and not government officials.

“We have seen a lot of people abusing the use of convoys and we have taken it up to the appropriate authority. This year, we would take more drastic action,” he said.

“Abuse of convoys and sirens are an abuse of freedom of movement and intimidation to road users and citizens across the country and this act must stop.”
