Fuel Price Hike: Strike Looms As Labour Union Walks Out From Meeting With FG

Fuel Price Hike: Strike Looms As Labour Union Walks Out From

In the heat of the recent increase in the price of fuel and electricity tariff, the organised labour Union on Sunday staged a walk-out on the federal government parley team, abruptly ending the meeting which was organised to deliberate on the current pump price of fuel and the electricity tariff.

According to PUNCH the meeting which was held at the Presidential villa banquet hall in Abuja, ended barely 10 minutes after it commenced.

The parley was organised to review the implementation of resolutions reached in previous meetings between the Federal government and the labour union on the increase in fuel price and electricity tariff.

The President of Trade Union Congress, Quadri Olaleye, was reported to have brought up the issue of the recently increased price of fuel some minutes after the commencement of the parley.

Stating that the labour union had started losing confidence in the government, Olaleye accused the government of being insincere in their dealings with the labour union and Nigerians.

Before the union staged a walk-out, Olaleye stated that the meeting must record progress otherwise, the labour leaders would be forced to walk out of the parley.

“Government is showing a high level of insincerity in discussions with us and is also putting us at risk with the people we are leading, with the masses. We find it difficult to move freely but the people in government are moving freely,” Olaleye said.

AllNews had earlier reported that the leaders of the Labour union will today be meeting with the Federal government in the heat of the recently increased fuel price.
